Marine Veterinary Medicine SIG

The oceans hold the largest and most diverse ecosystems on the planet, but they are also the most unknown and least explored environments! The University of Queensland Marine Veterinary Medicine SIG is designed for those people who wish to learn about and help preserve the vast number of animals that popular our exquisite oceans.

We are passionate about marine animals and conservation, and run events that allow everyone in the SIG to continue to develop their love for everything marine. We are also mentored by the wonderful Dr Rebecca Dunlop and Associate Professor Michael Noad.

This is a yearly tradition that is run as an introductory event for new members! We gather and put on a documentary that highlights the importance of marine conservation and recent developments in the marine science world. Free food included!

Behind the Scenes - Seaworld Tour

Event 2 - UQ Marine Veterinary Medicine Sig.jpg

We are extremely lucky to be able to run this event once a semester. For this trip, a small group of us are allowed to partake in a ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour guided by the caretakers of the marine animals receiving medical attention in Sea World.

This a wonderful opportunity that is immensely popular in the SIG as it allows us to gain wonderful insight into new marine conservation techniques and the importance of public awareness.
